Gary graduated from Emory University in 1986 with a B.A. degree in Political Science and a minor in Afro-American and African Studies. In 1989, he received his law degree from the Walter F. George School of Law of Mercer University, Macon, Georgia.

Jessica "Nikki" Oates began her legal career as a personal injury paralegal at a law firm in Atlanta, Georgia. After several years assisting attorneys in advocating for their clients, she decided she wanted to do more, so she returned to school to obtain her law degree.
Shaun Carter started his legal career in Clayton County, GA as a criminal defense attorney, gathering extensive trial experience before serving as an Assistant Solicitor General. Shaun also worked as Staff Counsel for one of the nation's largest automobile insurance companies, gaining experience in all phases of litigation.
