A man who was working at a DeKalb County CVS was charged with being an unlicensed pharmacist, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Jonas O. Mireku, 49, of Snellville, was arrested on Sept. 14. CVS determined he had falsified his license, and the company notified regulators, AJC is reporting.

In a statement given to the newspaper, a CVS spokesperson said: “We require that all CVS pharmacists be licensed in accordance with state law, and we utilize an electronic license check system to ensure all employees are appropriately licensed, registered or certified by law. We immediately notified regulators upon our discovery that (Mireku) had falsified his pharmacist license and he was terminated from his job at CVS pharmacy.”

He faces a felony charge of practicing pharmacy without a license, according to the AJC. Mireku worked shifts in various pharmacies, according to the newspaper. The case is under investigation, according to the Georgia Drugs and Narcotics Agency.

“Consumers who receive prescription drugs from unlicensed pharmacists are at risk of serious injury if the prescription is filled incorrectly” said Atlanta personal injury lawyer Gary Martin Hays of Gary Martin Hays & Associates, P.C. “While this case is under investigation, a large chain pharmacy like CVS could be liable if someone is injured as a result of the actions of an unlicensed pharmacist. Hopefully, no one was injured in this case.”
