Defective Ladders
Defective Ladders Cause Dangerous Falls
Falls from ladders cause serious injuries and deaths at home and on the job.
According to the American Ladder Institute, more than 500,000 people receive medical treatment every year because of ladder-related injuries. These injuries range in seriousness from cuts and bruises to fractures and brain injuries.
More than 300 people die each year in the U.S. from ladder injuries — nearly one ladder fatality each day.

Dangerous Ladders
In February 2008, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice for “Louisville/Davidson” and “Michigan” Brand Fiberglass Extension Ladders manufactured by Louisville Ladder Inc. The extension or “fly” section of these ladders can fail to lock, posing a fall hazard to consumers.
Independent Testing Reveals Ladder Defects
In 2006, a respected consumer product testing organization evaluated ladders and identified 13 they rated as unacceptable. The problems these dangerous ladders presented included a risk of crushing hazards to hands and fingers, ladder feet that slid out during testing and injury risks when fully extended.
Some consumers claim they were injured because of defects to the Werner fiberglass extension ladder's Shu-Lok ladder feet base.
Until stricter manufacturing standards are adopted and adhered to, consumers may be at risk whenever they climb a ladder.
